What they ask
Under the revised CRP SPL-XVI structure, IBPS added a 25-question (50-mark) Professional Knowledge test right inside the 80-minute Preliminary Exam alongside 25 questions each in English, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. In the 155-minute Main Exam, candidates now face qualifying sections in English (30M), Reasoning (40M), Quantitative Aptitude (30M) and a 25-mark English Descriptive paper, plus the 50-question, 100-mark Professional Knowledge (IT) paper. Only the 100-mark Professional Knowledge paper in Mains is counted for shortlisting to the Interview and for final merit (weighted 80:20 with the 100-mark Interview), but you must clear the sectional cut-off in every qualifying test.
How to prepare
- Prioritize DBMS & SQL, Computer Networks, Operating Systems and Data Structures: together they account for over 65% of the Professional Knowledge (IT) questions in both Prelims (50 marks) and Mains (100 marks).
- Do not neglect the new qualifying tests in Mains—English (30M), Reasoning (40M), Quant (30M) and Descriptive English (25M) each have mandatory sectional cut-offs that must be cleared for your Professional Knowledge paper to be evaluated for merit.
- Practice SQL query outputs, normalization normal forms (1NF to BCNF), IPv4 subnetting masks, OSI layer protocols and CPU/page replacement numericals, which appear every cycle.
- Avoid wild guessing in both stages: a wrong answer in the 2-mark Professional Knowledge questions deducts 0.50 marks (1/4 of 2 marks).
- Keep your Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English speed above the sectional cut-offs with daily timed practice quizzes on the free Improvam app.
