Your engineering notebook should help with both papers. If you keep restarting the same chapters after Paper-I, change the revision system before adding more study material.
The worked format below is from JE 2025. Paper-I combined 50 Reasoning, 50 General Awareness and 100 Engineering questions for 200 marks. Paper-II had 100 Engineering questions for 300 marks. Both were computer-based objective papers, ordinarily two hours each. Official JE 2025 scheme.
For a newer cycle, compare its full notification before selecting mocks. A 10 September 2026 addendum confirms changes to an IMD Scientific Assistant qualification within JE 2026; the 2025 post list cannot be assumed to describe that recruitment. Official JE 2026 addendum.
Make a syllabus map for your own branch
Start with the engineering branch and post for which you are applying. Put each listed topic beside one dependable set of notes and a question source. Avoid three resources explaining the same familiar chapter while an entire topic stays untouched.
Take strength of materials as an example. Review the definitions and assumptions, then check whether you can choose and use the right formula. When an answer is wrong, identify which layer failed. Forgetting a unit conversion is a different problem from applying a formula outside its assumptions.
Keep the correction short enough to revisit. A page filled with copied solutions is difficult to use the night before a mock. A note saying “convert millimetres before substituting this dimension” is immediately actionable.
Use an eight-week practice cycle
In the first two weeks, diagnose the branch topics and repair gaps that block other chapters. Use untimed problems where you cannot yet explain the method.
Across the middle weeks, alternate focused engineering practice with mixed sets. Mix old and new topics so that recognising the method becomes part of the task. Maintain Reasoning and General Awareness alongside engineering rather than treating them as a final-week addition.
In the last two weeks of this suggested cycle, simulate the applicable papers and revise the errors that repeat. This is a sample structure, not a promise that eight weeks is sufficient for every starting level.
Review calculations without hiding behind speed
Write the governing relation and units before substituting numbers. After solving, ask whether the sign and order of magnitude make sense. A negative value or a result a thousand times too large can be a clue that the setup needs checking.
Use the test tools allowed by your cycle's instructions during practice. Do not assume that a physical calculator or reference table is permitted because you use one in college.
When a result arrives, check whether it shortlists for another paper or announces a later stage. Keep preparing until you have read what the notice actually requires.
Use the free-mock review guide for an error-log method and exam guides for other SSC routes.
