You can share much of your SBI PO and IBPS PO subject preparation. You still need separate exam simulations. The 2026 notifications differ in section weights, Mains duration, descriptive work and final-stage assessment.

What overlaps?
English, quantitative work and reasoning provide a shared foundation. Mains preparation also needs awareness and descriptive communication. Practise concepts together, then separate your timed sessions by exam. Do not assume that a shared subject has the same number of questions or the same share of marks.

A shared week with separate mock tests
Use common study sessions to repair fundamentals: percentages, data interpretation, reasoning methods, reading comprehension and grammar. After a session, answer unfamiliar questions without referring to your notes. That checks whether the method transferred.
Keep one error log, but label every timed test with the exam and recruitment cycle. Record the cause of each error and the questions that consumed time without producing marks. Compare progress within the same format; raw attempt counts from different papers can mislead.
Practise descriptive tasks separately. For SBI, follow the communication-task options in its advertisement. For IBPS XVI, practise essays and passage-based comprehension. A letter-writing routine copied from an older guide will not cover every current task.
If you reach the later stages, prepare for the activities named in your own call letter. Group interaction needs practice listening and contributing, while an interview needs clear answers about your background and current banking issues. Do not treat either stage as an informal conversation you can skip preparing for.
Which should you prioritise?
Start with eligibility, application status and actual dates. If you can take both, sequence practice around the nearer stage and keep the shared subjects active. If your time is limited, choose the recruitment you can realistically complete rather than assuming that one bank’s brand makes the exam a better fit.
There is no reliable universal claim that one paper is always harder or that more advertised vacancies give an individual better odds. Applicant mix, category, performance and post preferences affect outcomes. Salary comparisons also need current bank-specific terms and posting conditions; this guide does not rank compensation from old figures.
Use the exam calendar for dated schedule sources and the results directory for official portals. A mock score helps diagnose preparation. It cannot establish selection probability.
