About RRB Isolated Categories
RRB Isolated Categories recruitment covers small specialist cadres that do not fit the NTPC, technical or paramedical notices, such as law assistants, prosecutors, Hindi translators and welfare inspectors. Each post has its own qualification and age band. Selection is a single CBT with a large professional-ability section, plus a qualifying translation test for Junior Translator.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–40 years, counted on 1 January 2026.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Age limits by post: Chief Law Assistant 18 to 40; Public Prosecutor 18 to 32; Scientific Assistant and Scientific Supervisor 18 to 35; Junior Translator, Senior Publicity Inspector and Staff and Welfare Inspector 18 to 33; Lab Assistant Grade III 18 to 30.
- SC and ST candidates get 5 extra years and OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates get 3. SC, ST and OBC candidates applying against unreserved vacancies get no age relaxation.
- PwBD candidates get 10 years (UR and EWS), 13 years (OBC-NCL) or 15 years (SC and ST), where the post is suitable.
- Ex-servicemen with more than six months of service after attestation get 3 years (UR and EWS), 6 years (OBC-NCL) or 8 years (SC and ST), counted after deducting their length of service from their age.
- Serving railway Group C and erstwhile Group D staff, and substitutes, with at least 3 years of service can apply up to 40 (UR and EWS), 43 (OBC-NCL) or 45 (SC and ST).
- If you qualify for relaxation on more than one ground, you get the largest one only; they do not add up.

Other conditions
- Open to Indian citizens, and to citizens of Nepal, subjects of Bhutan and a few other groups named in the notice, who need a Government of India eligibility certificate.
- You can apply to only one RRB. A second application, to the same or another RRB, gets all your applications rejected.

What they ask
Half of the CBT for most posts is professional ability, set from the post-wise syllabus annexed to the notice. The other 50 questions cover GA, reasoning, maths and Class 10 science. Junior Translator has a different paper in which at least half the questions test English and Hindi, and those shortlisted then take a translation test that needs 60% to pass. Merit for Junior Translator still comes from the CBT marks alone.
How to prepare
- Download the annexure for your post and treat it as your main syllabus, since it covers 50 of the 100 questions.
- Junior Translator aspirants should practise timed Hindi-English translation both ways. Scoring below 60% in the translation test ends your candidature.
- Keep the general sections steady: maths and science are only 10 questions each, but they add up with GA and reasoning to half the paper.
