About Coast Guard Navik
The Indian Coast Guard, an armed force under the Ministry of Defence, recruits sailors called Naviks through the Coast Guard Enrolled Personnel Test (CGEPT). The latest advertisement we could open, for the CGEPT 01/2026 and 02/2026 batches, listed 520 Navik (GD) and 50 Navik (DB) vacancies, open to male Indian citizens. Navik recruitment is zone-wise, with a separate merit list for each of five zones. Selection runs through an online exam, then a physical test, document checks and a medical, and finally pre-enrolment medicals at INS Chilka.

General category: 18–22 years.

- OBC: 3 years
- SC/ST and OBC (non-creamy layer) relaxation applies only where posts are reserved for them.
Qualification
Navik (General Duty): Class 12 with Maths and Physics from a board recognised by COBSE. Navik (Domestic Branch): Class 10 pass from a board recognised by COBSE.
Other conditions
- In the 2026 batches advertisement, Navik (GD) candidates had to be born between 1 August 2004 and 1 August 2008, and Navik (DB) candidates for the 02/2026 batch in the same window.
- Zones: North, West, East, South and Central, with the states in each listed in the advertisement. Merit lists are prepared zone by zone.
- Exam fee: Rs 300. Candidates applying against SC/ST vacancies are exempt.
- Minimum height is 157 cm, with up to 5 cm less for listed North-East and hill states, Gorkhas and island tribes, and 2 cm less for Lakshadweep.

What they ask
Section I has 60 one-mark questions in 45 minutes, and the pass mark in the advertisement was 30 for UR/EWS/OBC and 27 for SC/ST. Navik GD candidates also take Section II, 50 Class 12 Maths and Physics questions in 30 minutes, with a pass mark of 20 (17 for SC/ST), and must pass both sections separately. There is no negative marking, so attempt every question. Final merit is based on Stage I marks, which makes the online exam the part that decides selection.
How to prepare
- Attempt every question, because the advertisement states there is no negative marking in the online exam.
- Navik GD aspirants should give equal time to Class 12 Maths and Physics, which make up all 50 questions of Section II.
- Practise Section I at speed: 60 questions in 45 minutes leaves 45 seconds each, with Maths the largest block at 20 questions.
- Practise the 1.6 km run, squat-ups and push-ups back to back, since any break during the PFT counts as a fail.
