IBPS RRB 2026: Officer Scale I & Office Assistant complete guide

IBPS RRB 2026 official dates — Officer Scale I Prelims 21–22 November, Office Assistant 6–13 December. Pattern, the state-language rule, and a prep plan.

IBPS RRB recruits for India's 40+ Regional Rural Banks — the officer (Scale I, the "RRB PO") and clerical (Office Assistant, the "RRB Clerk") cadres. It's one of the biggest banking recruitments of the year, and structurally friendlier than mainline IBPS: no English section at Prelims, and posting in your home state.

The pattern — and why RRB Prelims is pure speed

Prelims for both posts: 80 questions in 45 minutes — Reasoning (40) and Quantitative Aptitude (40), with −0.25 negative marking. No English, no GA at this stage. That's 34 seconds a question, the tightest clock in banking exams; the entire Prelims game is speed-accuracy on two sections.

Mains adds General Awareness, English/Hindi (your choice), and Computer Knowledge — and for Scale I, the interview follows. The GA section draws on the usual 4–6 month news window with a rural-banking flavour: NABARD, priority-sector lending, RRB-sector developments, agriculture schemes.

Speed is a daily habit, not a mock-week discovery — Improvam's timed quizzes (45s a question, hearts, streaks) keep the pace muscle warm through the whole cycle. Free.

Three things that decide RRB selections

1. The state-language rule. You apply for one state's RRBs and must be proficient in that state's official language (tested at Mains for many states). Pick your state deliberately — it fixes both your competition pool and your posting.

2. Reasoning-Quant depth, not breadth. With only two Prelims sections, cutoffs run high — often 60+ of 80. Puzzles and DI sets decide it: practise selection (which sets to attempt) as deliberately as solving.

3. The rural-banking GA layer. Mainline banking prep covers most of the Mains GA section, but RRB papers reliably add NABARD functions, RRB structure and agri-credit schemes. A daily curated digest covers this in the background; cramming it in the Prelims–Mains gap doesn't.

If you're also in the IBPS PO/Clerk cycle, the preparation is one corpus — the mainline IBPS PO guide covers the shared strategy, and SBI PO vs IBPS PO the wider landscape.

FAQ

What are the IBPS RRB 2026 exam dates? Officer Scale I Prelims: 21–22 November 2026, Mains 20 December 2026. Office Assistant Prelims: 6, 12 and 13 December 2026, Mains 30 January 2027 — per the official IBPS calendar.

Is there English in IBPS RRB Prelims? No — Prelims is Reasoning (40) and Quant (40) only. English/Hindi appears at Mains, and you choose which.

Can I apply for RRBs in more than one state? No — one state per cycle, and language proficiency in that state's official language is required for most states.

Is IBPS RRB easier than IBPS PO? Prelims is narrower (two sections) but faster-paced, and cutoffs are high. "Easier" mostly reflects the home-state posting and no-English Prelims — the competition per seat is still serious.
