IBPS PO XVI needs a plan for each selection stage. Sharing subjects with other banking exams does not make the question weights, timers or descriptive tasks identical. Start with the current scheme before choosing a mock series.

The 2026 selection path

Prelims is a shortlisting stage. A strong score there does not replace Mains preparation. Read the Mains format guide before copying a timetable that still assumes 155 objective questions or letter writing.
Prepare each Prelims section on its own clock
Each section has 20 minutes. English has 30 questions for 30 marks; Quant has 35 for 30 marks; Reasoning has 35 for 40 marks. Question counts therefore do not tell you the section’s marks. Wrong answers attract a penalty of one-quarter of the marks assigned to the question; do not subtract a flat 0.25 for every question across the paper.
For practice, split your error log into concepts, accuracy and selection. A puzzle you understood but left half-finished is a different problem from an inequality rule you never learnt. Work on one cause at a time. The Prelims timing guide has a practical way to review those choices.
If you are preparing for Mains now
Build your week around timed objective sections, awareness revision and typed descriptive work. Do not spend the whole week attempting mocks without reviewing them.
For awareness, make a source-linked note of a development, its institution and why it matters. Banking and economic news deserves attention, but no fixed four- or six-month reading window guarantees coverage. Check the notification’s section description and use revision tests to identify what you cannot recall.
For descriptive work, practise the actual tasks: an essay with a clear argument and comprehension answers that respond to the passage. Re-read for relevance, structure and grammar. A memorised introduction is of little use when it does not answer the question.
Keep the personality test and interview instructions in your calendar. Non-qualifying does not mean optional. If shortlisted, organise the documents requested in the call letter and prepare to discuss your own education, work and reasons for choosing banking without inventing experience.
What is a safe score?
There is no score we can promise will clear a future cutoff. Sectional requirements, category, vacancies and the recruitment’s scoring rules all matter. Compare your performance with the official result write-up for the same cycle and category, not an unsourced social-media target.
