How is CGPA converted to a percentage?

CBSE's method is CGPA × 9.5, so a CGPA of 8.2 becomes 77.9%. Many universities use their own formula. If yours publishes one, use it instead of 9.5.

Which subjects should I include?

Rules differ between boards and exams. Some count every subject and some count a set number of best subjects. Follow the rule in your exam's notification.

Which figure do I enter in the application form?

Enter what the form asks for. If it wants a percentage and your marksheet shows only CGPA, use the conversion rule printed on the marksheet or given by your university, and keep a copy of that rule for document verification.

For CGPA, enter your CGPA on a 10-point scale. The calculator multiplies it by 9.5, the CBSE method.

Check how the form wants the value, such as the number of decimal places, before you enter it.

Questions people ask

Divide the marks you scored by the maximum marks and multiply by 100. For example, 432 out of 500 is 432 ÷ 500 × 100 = 86.4%.
