Weekly current affairs: 7–10 September 2026

Four official announcements on clean freight, forests, ocean research and financial compliance, with exam connections and three original practice questions.

Coverage: 7–10 September 2026. Sources checked: 10 September 2026. This edition selects four announcements published on 7–9 September. It is a study briefing, not a comprehensive news service or live feed. Exam connections and the three practice questions are Improvam editorial work; they are not official exam questions.

Clean freight: NITI Aayog launches PACT

NITI Aayog announced the Platform for Aggregating Clean Transport (PACT) at the fifth e-FAST India Summit on 7 September. It brings together demand from freight customers and logistics operators to help plan zero-emission truck deployments. The accompanying ZET Marketplace connects vehicle makers, charging operators, financiers and logistics businesses. These are coordination initiatives; the launch itself does not establish an emissions reduction outcome. NITI Aayog announcement, 7 September 2026.

Exam connection: Link transport decarbonisation to infrastructure and industrial policy. A useful Mains question is why vehicle availability alone may be insufficient when charging, financing and predictable demand also matter.

Revise: demand aggregation · charging infrastructure · zero-emission freight.

Forests: India and Japan agree a cooperation roadmap

The seventh India–Japan Joint Working Group on forests met in Bengaluru on 8 September. Both sides endorsed a 2027–2031 roadmap under their 2015 Memorandum of Cooperation. The discussions covered trees outside forests, forest genetics, and forest inventories and monitoring technologies. Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change announcement, 8 September 2026.

Exam connection: Connect bilateral cooperation with biodiversity and forestry. Keep the meeting date separate from the roadmap period. The discussion of trees outside forests is a prompt to revise agroforestry and tree resources beyond recorded forest areas.

Revise: trees outside forests · germplasm conservation · forest inventory.

Ocean research: Sagar Manthan reaches the launch stage

The Ministry of Earth Sciences announced the launch of ORV Sagar Manthan in Kolkata on 9 September. GRSE is building it for the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research under the Deep Ocean Mission. The release describes planned ocean-survey, sampling and observation capabilities. System integration and sea trials remain ahead, with delivery for commissioning scheduled for 2028. Launch therefore should not be confused with entry into operational service. Ministry of Earth Sciences announcement, 9 September 2026.

Exam connection: Connect research infrastructure with the blue economy, climate observations and marine environmental baselines. Separate a platform's intended capabilities from results it has already delivered.

Revise: ocean research vessel · bathymetry · Deep Ocean Mission.

Financial compliance: FIU-IND issues notices to VDA providers

On 9 September, the Finance Ministry reported that FIU-IND had issued non-compliance notices to 15 virtual digital asset service providers under Section 13 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. The release explains that the relevant reporting obligations are activity-based and can apply to offshore providers operating in India. It also reports notices seeking application and URL takedowns; a notice is not proof that every listed service has already become inaccessible. Ministry of Finance announcement, 9 September 2026.

Exam connection: For banking awareness, distinguish the reporting entity's compliance duties from a consumer-facing approval of an investment product. Read the source for the precise scope of the action.

Revise: FIU-IND · reporting entity · anti-money laundering.
